After a decade-long dominance, the assembly election in Haryana is going to be challenging for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Not that there is a set rule for anti-incumbency, but the unhappiness of Haryanvis over PKJ — pehalwan (wrestlers), kisan (farmers) and jawan (Agniveer policy) — may cost it in the political dangal ahead.
The BJP is also grappling with large-scale defections and discontent among those who have been denied tickets. Some of these leaders were the party’s backbone for mobilising support from the non-Jat community, which it has banked on for the past decade.
